Intro to Mixed Aerials

  • Curious about aerial arts? This class is for those with zero to little aerial experience. You will be introduced to different hard and soft apparatus, including silks, trapeze, hammock, and lyra. Learn foundational skills and build strength and body awareness in the air, while you explore a variety of aerial disciplines.

    Prerequisites: None. This class is for everyone.

Aerial Silks, Sling & Rope


Intro to Silks (Newbie/Beginner)

  • In this beginner class, you will build your physical stamina and flexibility for maneuvering the silks—and get comfortable being upside down in the air. You will also be introduced to foundational climbs, wraps, and skills.

    Prerequisites: None, this class for those with zero to little aerial silks experience.

Silks Fundamentals & Proficiency (Beginner/Int)

  • In this class, we will be focusing on some of the fundamental skills necessary to start building your silks vocabulary.

    Hip keys, knee hooks, cross backs, and egg beater footlocks are some of the skills that you’ll need on your silks journey, and we’ll break them down from the beginning. Throw in some silk wrap theory and this class becomes a great supplement for both intro and level 1 students.

    Prerequisites:

    • Both French/standard and Russian climbs to the top with ease

    • Double Figure 8 footlocks from the air

Silks Level 1 (Beginner/Intermediate)

  • This class will build on the foundation developed in our Intro classes. You will continue to work on inversions, strength, and stamina, along with new climbs, wraps, and skills.

    Prerequisites: Pre-approval by instructor or video submission of required skills. Submit video to info@thehive-sf.com.

    Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • 2 to 3 climbs off the ground on each side (French/Standard & Russian).

    • 4 Straddle ups starting from the floor (bent arms and bent knees are ok)

    • Standard foot lock on both sides

Creative & Artistic Development for Silks (Levels 1 & 2)

  • This class will accompany the students in their journey to find themselves in their apparatus. With the help of breathing, theater and movement techniques, students will create and explore new paths with the skills they already have or are currently working on.

    While some new material may be introduced in class, this is not a class for learning new drops or advanced-level tricks. This class is focused on turning individual skills already in your repertoire into flowing sequences–and helping you develop your own personal artistry.

    Prerequisites: Students must already be approved for Level 1 or Level 2 Silks

Rope Level 1 (Beginner/Intermediate)

Silks Level 2 (Intermediate)

  • Ready for the next level? Challenge yourself and work on new climbs, drops, spinning, and other intermediate-level aerial skills.

    Prerequisites: Pre-approval by instructor or video submission of required skills. Submit video to info@thehive-sf.com.

    Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • 2 Russian and 2 French climbs to the top using both sides (4 climbs total)

    • 3 straddle ups in the air (bent arms/legs ok)

    • 3 hip keys in the air on both sides

    • Standard and egg beater footlocks

    • 1 crossback straddle

    • 1 drop of your choice

Silks Level 3 (Advanced)

  • Discover more complex movement and further develop your artistry and expression in the air.

    Prerequisites: Pre-approval by instructor or video submission of required skills. Submit video to info@thehive-sf.com.

    Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • 5 bent arm straddle ups on each side

    • Double Star

    • Back Dive

    • 360 with tail catch, no leg wraps

    • 5-second flag hold, both sides

    • Working on splits - L, R & Middle

    • Working on Bridge/Wheel

Intro to Sling/Hammock (Newbie/Beginner)

  • This class will introduce students to the foundations of sling with a focus on building strength, flexibility, and technique to execute skills in the air. You will learn how to properly warm up your body for aerial, get comfortable being upside down, learn fabric theory basics, and start to build a spin tolerance.

    Prerequisites: None. This class is for everyone!

Sling/Hammock Level 1 (Beginner/Intermediate)

  • This class builds on the foundation developed in intro class. Students will focus on learning new poses and sequences to build stamina in the air. Perfect for students who have a solid understanding of foundation skills and are ready for new transitions / tips to find their flow. Level 1 sling will include new material to add to your sling dictionary.

    Prerequisites: Mastery of foundation skills taught in Intro class or approval by instructor

  • Start building your physical stamina and flexibility in the air in this beginner/intermediate rope class. Learn climbs, wraps, drops and other skills on the rope, and get comfortable maneuvering the apparatus while you’re upside-down, sideways or right-side up.

    Prerequisites: Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • 4 Straddle ups in the air (2 on each side, bent arms and straight legs)

    • Standard foot lock on both sides

    • 2 Russian and 2 French climbs to the top using both sides (4 climbs total)

    • 3 hip keys in the air on both sides

    • 1 drop of your choice

Lyra (Aerial Hoop)


Intro to Lyra (Newbie)

  • This class will introduce students to basic poses and proper form and technique on the lyra. We will also focus on building strength and flexibility, both on the ground and in the air. Some spinning may be incorporated at the end of class, depending on students’ spin tolerance.

    Prerequisites: None, this class is open to everyone.

Lyra Level 1 (Beginner/Intermediate)

  • Begin to work on poses coming from straddle ups, tuck-ups, knee hangs, and single arm holds. Some spinning may be incorporated, depending on students’ spin tolerance.

    Prerequisites: Pre-approval by instructor or video submission of required skills. Submit video to info@thehive-sf.com.

    Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • Knee hangs

    • 5 Tuck ups

    • 2 Straddle ups from the floor

Lyra Level 2 (Intermediate/Advanced)

  • Learn more advanced strength-based conditioning, along with choreography and sequencing. More time will be spent on spinning and flares to get into the hoop. Dynamic moves such as beats and drops will be introduced at this level.

    Prerequisites: Pre-approval by instructor or video submission of required skills. Submit video to info@thehive-sf.com.

    Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • Clean straddle inversions

    • Solid single knee hangs (10 seconds)

    • Single arm holds (10 seconds)

    • Working towards back balances

    • Willingness to spin

Lyra Technique Lab

  • In this class, we will be focusing on improving our overall technique on the lyra (aerial hoop). This includes, but is not limited to: cleaner inversions, working on flares and flare pathways, plus specific drills for straight legs and flexibility. We will also work on boosting strength in the air by conditioning and utilizing progressive conditioning drills. Some time will be spent addressing student's specific drills for their individual needs.

    Must be able to confidently perform Lyra Level 1 prerequisites and be working towards Level 2 skills.

Aerial Straps & Single Point Trapeze


Single Point Trapeze Level 1 (Intermediate)

  • Single Point Trapeze I combines elements of static trapeze and aerial hoop and requires students to come in with a little more strength and experience than other beginner classes. You will learn a variety of skills and spins, including low spins and flares as well as hangs such as knee, ankle, heel and toe.

    Prerequisites: Students must be able to confidently perform the following skills to attend this class.

    • Knee hangs

    • 5 Tuck ups

    • 4 Straddle ups from the floor

Intro to Aerial Straps (Beginner)

  • If you want to take conditioning to the next level, this is the class for you.

    Straps is a strength-based apparatus with technique to help you along. In this class you will learn your basic wraps and key positions as well as how to move them around.

    With these foundations the rest of your life becomes instantly easier, or at least your aerial will.

    Prerequisites:

    • 30 shoulder shrugs

    • 30 second static hang

    • 10 tuck ups on the floor

    • 10 push ups from the knees

    • 5 bent arm inversions

Aerial Straps Level 1 (Intermediate)

  • Utilizing fundamental aerial straps techniques and movement taught in the Intro to Straps class you will get an excellent full-body workout with a focus on upper body conditioning unique to the straps apparatus.

    You will be working on flags, switches, spinning (both and single arm) and vertically rolling onto back balances. These techniques will elevate and familiarize your straps goals.

    • 10 bent-arm inversions
