Rope & Dance Trapeze Workshops with Jason Mejias

Rope - Efficient Pathways and Dynamics

Saturday 05/11/2024 5.00-6.30pm

In this workshop we'll be working on efficient ways of navigating through the apparatus with slow and/or dynamic movements.

We'll find creative ways to move up the rope and maintain height, among other things.


Prerequisites:

  • Must be able to cleanly invert in the air, hip key in the air, be in the air for at least 1 minute.

  • Understand s wraps, catchers, and windmills/wheeldowns

Dance Trapeze - Workshopping Dynamics and Rope Transitions

In this workshop we'll be playing with different trapeze dynamics as well as sequencing on the Ropes and Bar.

Prerequisites:
Must be able to pull over mount unto the apparatus, cleanly invert in the air and have single knee hangs.

Injury triage and wellness for circus artists, students & instructors with Stephanie Greenspan PT, DPT

Ready to Train….or Not - A Workshop for Coaches

Saturday 06/01/2024 2.30-4.30pm

Circus and dance instructors are often the first to know about student injuries and have to determine when it is or is not appropriate for students to participate.

 This workshop will empower coaches with simple frameworks to evaluate students’ readiness to participate including considerations around recovery and injury. It will also cover strategies to adjust class activities for modified participation. Finally, we will discuss workload management for students returning to training and performance after a break.


Objectives - Coaches will be able to:

  • Implement a framework for evaluating readiness to participate in circus training or performance and triaging student injuries.

  • Apply workload management principles to a return to training and performance plan for students returning from injury or a break in training.

Prerequisites: Performing Arts Instructor (Circus or Dance)

Enhancing Wellness & Performance in Circus Training

Saturday 06/01/2024 4.45-7.15pm

It can be challenging to filter through fitness information to find healthy practices supported by science and how the information applies to you.

This workshop will translate sports and circus science into practical strategies for circus artists to enhance their health and performance.

We will cover physical preparation including warm-up, conditioning, workload management, and recovery as well as factors that increase your injury risk. Participants will leave with knowledge and tools that they can readily implement into their training inside and outside of class.


Participants will be able to:

  • Integrate wellness and performance concepts from sports and performing arts science to physical preparation for training.

  • Monitor and adjust training workloads to decrease injury risk and enhance performance.

  • Implement recovery strategies to minimize fatigue and soreness.

  • Implement a basic conditioning program to enhance performance in aerial classes.
