In this workshop we will be working through familiar fundamentals to find new pathways and poses on the sling.

We’ll explore the possibilities of using the floor while manipulating the apparatus in interesting ways.


Prerequisites: Solid pullovers, ability to not take yourself too seriously.

Learn a completely original sequence created by Luna.

Prerequisites: Aerial inversions, 30-second dead hang

Teardrops (Int/Adv)

Sunday, May 18, 5:45 - 7:00 pm

This workshop will focus on slack loop exploration – using the extra slack to create teardrop poses and transitions.


Prerequisites: Inverting in the air, up to 2 min endurance on the apparatus

About Luna

Luna Finn is a Bay Area-based circus performer, producer, visual artist, and union makeup artist. She specializes in aerial hammock/sling with an emphasis on act creation, character development, and movement quality. As the founder and director of DAM Circus, Luna focuses on group choreography and building strong creative communities. She is the visionary behind immersive productions like Salooniverse and Cosmic Expedition! and has coordinated performers for major festivals including Coachella and Envision Festival in Costa Rica.

Luna has been practicing circus for 15 years and has been teaching for the last  8 years.


Come Get Flexi with Gunnar Field

Flexibility for All Movers - Splits focus

Sunday, May 11, 4:00-6:00pm

Have you been working on your splits but want to take it to the next level or just looking for new drills or sequences to work on? Well look no further. In this workshop, we will work on how to get deeper into our hips, hamstrings, quads and adductors safely – putting an emphasis on engagement and elongation of the limbs and muscles.

Using active flexibility drills and strengthening exercises, Gunnar will show you how to make that split line even better. Focus will be on muscle isolation and activation, quad and glute engagement, hip flexor openers & stabilizers.


Prerequisites:

  • Forward pike touching toes or further

  • No existing injury that would impact stretching your legs

Flexi Lyra

Sunday, May 11, 6:15-8:15pm

Lyra is a beautiful apparatus, and flexibility lends itself to it very nicely.

Flowing from one pose to the next effortlessly is what we all want, and interesting transitions make the trick all the more stunning.

Focus will be on splits poses in many different variations, how to use your flexibility to your advantage as well as transitions through poses. We will learn how to spin and control your spin as well.


Prerequisites:

  • Experience with Lyra or other aerial apparatus

  • Comfortable doing straddle up

  • Comfortable back bending

  • Flat split or close to flat

About Gunnar

Infusing Mongolian contortion techniques with his own flair, Gunnar Field is a contortion and hand-balancing coach with 30 years experience in body movmenet and mechanics. Gunnar has developed a unique approach to teaching the art of contortion, influenced by his past training in gymnastics and ballet. He has studied and trained contortion in Mongolia and China and has performed around the United States, Thailand & China.
